You may remember that around this time last year, the Pan European Game Information rating board (PEGI) rated the campaign of a supposed Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remaster. The assumption at the time was that it would ship around or close to the release of 2019’s Modern Warfare. In fact, that was the second time the name Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered appeared, after a leaked retailer listing first revealed its existence in 2018. It’s now 2020, and there’s yet another hint that the mysterious remaster was not a figment of our collective imaginations. The Korean rating board (via VGC) recently rated the campaign remaster. This was done on February 26, which is close to the since-removed February 2019 rating by PEGI.
As you can see, the translated rating card doesn’t reveal any details we don’t already know. It has plenty of warnings about content, of course, but no specific platforms or anything of the sort. Activision did say that it’s planning “Several” remasters and re-imagined games this year, so this could be one of them. Call of Duty 2020 is said to have had a turbulent development as a result of creative differences between former co-developers Sledgehammer and Raven, which reportedly forced Activision to bring in Treyarch to finish the game in time for the yearly fall release.
