Cyberpunk 2077 is currently CD Projekt Red’s biggest game, with its development team being the largest in the company today. At a meeting with local media this, CD Projekt president, Adam Kicinski, explained what the studio will split into three teams following the release of Cyberpunk 2077. That’s according to Eurogamer Poland, who attended the briefing. The Google-translated version reveals that one team will work on Cyberpunk 2077 add-on content, another will develop the previously announced Cyberpunk multiplayer project, and a third team will begin work on the next title in The Witcher series. According to Eurogamer Poland, this will not simply be The Witcher 4, rather, a game set in that universe.
“We have created a relatively clear concept that is waiting for further development,” Kicinski said of The Witcher project. “We have two worlds and within these worlds we want to create games, therefore all the games planned so far are either Witcher or Cyberpunk,” he added. The Witcher project, however, will have the smallest team of all three, so it’s years away. For reference, CD Projekt plans to release the Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer game by 2022. This week’s news is not particularly surprising considering CD Projekt Red previously communicated that it’s now a two-franchise studio, so the expectation is that work will alternate between Witcher and Cyberpunk going forward. In any case, Cyberpunk 2077 development is progressing smoothly, with the game recently submitted for age classification. Cyberpunk 2077 is on track for a September 17 launch.
