We won’t have to wait too long to get more Xbox news. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, has said that the next big Xbox event “should” take place in August. Spencer revealed the news in an interview with iJustine, where he reiterated Xbox’s commitment to existing players and their game libraries. “I am encouraged to be able to talk more about [Microsoft’s Xbox plans]… should be August. I think August we’ll have more to say,” he said. This is the first time the platform holder has publicly acknowledged the August event, which has been rumoured since earlier in the summer. Although Spencer didn’t offer details about the agenda, or really hint at how early/late in the month it’s going to take place, reports suggest it may Xbox’s biggest yet.
The August event is significant for a number of reasons, chiefly because many in the industry believe it’s going to be where Microsoft officially reveals Lockhart, the supposedly cheaper, less powerful sibling to Series X. It would also offer another great opportunity to announce the price of both machines, and possibly even a launch date. This is all anyone’s guess, of course, but it seems a little ridiculous Microsoft would want to wait even longer to talk price. We expect to hear more about the August event in the coming weeks. Assuming, of course, plans don’t change like they have repeatedly this year.
