Sony Interactive Entertainment president Jim Ryan has announced that starting today, download speeds from the PlayStation Network (PSN) may be slower in Europe. This decision was made in an effort to “preserve access for the entire internet community”, as more and more people are now stuck home. As a measure against the spread of coronavirus, countries around the world are enforcing lockdowns and stay-at-home orders, which caused a spike in internet usage....

Earlier today, the PC version of PUBG received patch 6.2, following a week of testing. Today’s patch adds Arcade, a new gameplay section that offers game modes separate from the core battle royale experience. The first of these is Team Deathmatch, available in 8v8 configurations on seven different arenas cut out from existing maps. TDM is available in first-person only, and comes with a standard ruleset from re-spawning to regenerating health....

This year in Rainbow Six Siege will look different. As previously revealed, the game is only getting four operators in Year 6, one per season. The even bigger change, however, is that the Year Pass is itself going away. Previously, operators were available as part of a season pass-style purchase called the Year Pass. Available for every year since Siege’s original release, each pass would include access to all of that year’s yet-to-be-released operators, as well as a few other bonuses....

A new look at Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart was shown today during gamescom Opening Night Live, and if you missed it, we have you covered. First announced in June during the PS5 showcase, it’s coming to you courtesy of Insomniac Games. The game features ray-traced reflections on Clank’s character model and makes use of the PS5’s SSD to allow players to instantly jump through rifts across different dimensions. The developer has rolled back the latest Red Dead Online title update for PS4 and Xbox One to help address issues and improve stability. According to the studio, an update which intended to provide security improvements and address connection errors introduced the issues. These issues ranged from connection problems, low animal spawn counts, difficulty pitching Camps, entering Moonshine shacks as well as others on consoles. “We have reverted back to the previous version on those platforms, initially launched on July 28....

During its Q3 call to investors overnight, Take-Two announced new shipped figures for Red Dead Redemption 2 and Borderlands 3. In November, it was reported Red Dead Redemption 2 had shipped 26. 5 million units. Since its release on PC and Stadia, the figure has risen to over 29 million units shipped. While Take-Two wouldn’t go into specifics, going by a SuperData report from January, digital sales of the title more than doubled from 406K in November when it released on PC through the Epic Games Store and Rockstar Launcher, to 1 million when it hit Steam in December....

As part of today’s Resident Evil Showcase, Capcom unveiled Resident Evil RE: Verse, a new multiplayer third-person shooter. RE: Verse is a free pack-in with every copy of Resident Evil Village. RE: Verse lets you celebrate Resident Evil’s 25-year history by letting you play as/against many of the series’ iconic heroes, villains and monsters. The gameplay shown on stream today was seemingly cut from different matches, and Capcom didn’t offer much in the way of explaining how the game actually works....

The latest video also shows The Mercenaries Additional Orders. It introduces new playable characters, more stages, and additional improvements. The Winters’ Expansion is set a few years after the events of Resident Evil 7 and resumes the Winters family saga. It finds Ethan hunted by new foes in an isolated village. In Mercenaries, a new ensemble of heroes and villains join protagonist Ethan Winters as playable characters in The Mercenaries Additional Orders....

But before we get to revisit the second part of the iconic Final Fantasy 7 story, we need to respond to some burning questions we have about the next title in the series. The head of PlayStation Jim Ryan has said that its PS5 games justify the £70 price tag they’ve been given. In an interview with The Telegraph, the Sony exec was pressed on whether he felt this was a fair price point for games on its brand new hardware, saying that they provide as much entertainment as other mediums. “Yes, yes, I do [think £70 is a fair price]," Ryan said....
